What this means for your tracking

  • Weight the engine mix: Always measure ChatGPT and Gemini, supplement with Perplexity and Claude – this way you cover over 90% of the market.
  • Prioritize purchase-intent prompts: A quarter of users get product recommendations from AI. Comparison and recommendation prompts belong in every set.
  • Trends instead of snapshots: With double-digit annual usage growth, the change in your visibility says more than a single metric.
Methodology
Grundgesamtheit
Internet users aged 16 and over in Germany. "Usage" means active use of an AI assistant, not just AI features in existing products.
Marktanteile
Share of active AI users, weighted from traffic data and surveys. Multiple use is possible, values are normalized to 100%.
Zeitreihe
Annual values always at the beginning of the year. The value for 2026 is an extrapolation based on Q3/Q4 2025 data.
Rounding & Imprecision
All values rounded to full percentage points. Realistic range of fluctuation: ±3 pp for usage rates, ±5 pp for market shares.
Abgrenzung
Studies define "usage" differently (ever / monthly / weekly). We report ever and weekly separately to allow for comparisons.
